Course Descriptor

Course Outline:

This training course provides the learner with an overview of renewable energy technologies and covers topics such as energy supply and sustainability, solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, ocean energy, bioenergy, geothermal Energy,energy efficient buildings and energy management at work and in the home.

The course provides FETAC credit in Project Management at level 5.

Course Objectives:

1.         To understand the terminology of energy systems generation, transmission, distribution and usage.

2.         To gain an appreciation of fossil fuel energy issues, sustainability and the drive to renewable energies.

3.         To develop knowledfge and understanding of solar energy supply and usage.

4.         To develop knowledge and understanding of wind energy sources and its characterisitics.

5.         To develop knowledge and understanding of hydo energy supply technologies.

6.        To develop knowledge and understanding of ocean energy supply technoloogies.

7.        To develop knowledge and understanding of Bioenergy supply technologies.

8.        To develop knowledge and understanding of Geothermal heating systems.

9. To develop knowledge and understanding of energy efficient and sustainable building design and its principles.

10. To understand methods of energy management at work and in the home.

Delivery and Assessment

The course is delivered in module format with approximately 30 hours of tuition.
